4th of July Holiday
The coming of the Independence Day holiday is often celebrated with fireworks displays by many communities. Unfortunately, many individuals also purchase fireworks illegally, for their home display. Although the purchase of some types of fireworks may be legal in some neighboring states, the fact remains that they are still illegal to use or even possess in Illinois.
Sparks from fireworks can easily start fires which spread quickly and result in tragedy. Sparklers are a legal alternative however, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”), approximately 16% of all consumer fireworks injuries are caused by sparklers burning hands and legs, with the majority of sparkler injuries occurring to young children. According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), “annually just under 10,000 Americans are injured by fireworks”.
The Kenilworth Police investigate all fireworks complaints and in order to promote safety in our community, the Kenilworth Police cite numerous citizens for Possession of Fireworks over the 4th of July holiday and throughout the year.
Please work with us to ensure that the 4th of July holiday is a safe and happy one for all of us.
