Crime Alert

At 11:48 p.m. on 3/27/18, a Kenilworth Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on Sheridan Road at Kenilworth Ave. for a speeding violation.  The Officer spoke with the driver and four passengers, one of which was a 4 year old child.  The driver failed to produce identification and fled in the vehicle westbound on Kenilworth Ave. from Sheridan Rd. at a high rate of speed.  A pursuit was not initiated due to the offense being a minor traffic violation and considering the safety of the child passenger. Officers discovered the vehicle approximately 5 minutes later, parked at Roslyn Rd. and Melrose Ave. in Kenilworth. The driver had fled on foot prior to the officer’s arrival but all four passengers remained by the vehicle.  A search for the subject continued until he was located on a Metra train in Evanston at 4:57 a.m. The subject resisted arrest but was successfully taken into custody by Wilmette and Evanston Officers.  It was later determined that while the subject was on foot, a detached garage in the 400 block of Cumnor Rd. in Kenilworth was entered where a bicycle and hover board were taken.  These items were discovered during the foot pursuit of the suspect and were returned to the owner.  The subject is also suspected of burglarizing an auto repair shop in the 1200 Block of Green Bay Rd. in Wilmette.  The incidents are under investigation.
