Stolen Auto and Burglary to Motor Vehicle
On January 21 at 1:25 a.m. a Kenilworth officer on patrol observed an unoccupied vehicle parked in the 700 Block of Cummings which was stolen out of Chicago. Upon further investigation, a vehicle parked in a driveway near this vehicle was observed to have been entered. Officers from Wilmette, Winnetka and a Police K-9 unit from Lake County responded to assist in searching for the offenders. Approximately, three hours later, two male teens, one from Chicago and one from Dixmoor were discovered in the area on foot.
As of this alert, one car in Kenilworth was reported stolen from the 700 Block of MacLean, six unlocked vehicles from the area of Brier, MacLean and Cummings were entered and one stolen vehicle out of Chicago was recovered. The stolen vehicle from Kenilworth was unlocked with the keys in the vehicle. All of the vehicles entered were unsecured and items taken included, coins and keys. The investigation into this matter and into these individuals found in the area is ongoing. Please contact the Kenilworth Police Department if you see unfamiliar vehicles or person(s) in your neighborhood late at night or during the early morning hours.
A good security measure is to always lock your vehicles and remove the keys —even when parked in your driveway. Also, please avoid leaving valuable property (purses, wallets, GPS, cell phones, currency, iPods and other electrical accessories) within your vehicle. These simple measures may help deter a criminal from targeting you!
