Stolen Auto Spotted in Kenilworth

Today at 4:00 p.m. a dark colored BMW 535 4-Door was reported to the police as driving suspiciously in the area of Leicester and Woodstock. The registration on the vehicle showed that it had been stolen out of Chicago. The vehicle was driven by two African American males, possibly juveniles. The vehicle was last seen by police fleeing southbound on Green Bay Road in Evanston in the northbound lanes.

It is possible that this incident may be related to a crime pattern which occurred on the North Shore over the course of this past year where unlocked cars with the keys inside were being stolen.

During these cold winter months it can be tempting to leave vehicles unattended in the driveway while it warms up. This incident confirms that opportunists are looking to take advantage of such situations. Please make sure that your vehicles are left locked, without the keys inside.
