Feeling Anxious About COVID-19? Get Help Now!
Joan O’Neill, LPC
COVID-19 can create feelings of stress leading to anxiety, and possibly Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) if left untreated.
How does one find a therapist during this crisis? Mental health providers – psychologists, counselors and social workers – are prepared to help, both during a crisis and over a longer period. If you are in any type of crisis, text “HELLO” to 741741 to access the Crisis Text Line 24 hours a day. A trained crisis counselor will respond, providing help and support.
If you are not in crisis but find yourself overwhelmed by what you’re experiencing due to COVID-19 and need emotional support, you can access services through the Illinois Department of Health by sending a message to the Illinois Call4Calm Text Line Service. Text “TALK” (or “HABLAR” for support in Spanish) to 552020. This is not a crisis line, but rather, a resource for anyone experiencing stress and in need of someone to listen. You should receive a call from a counselor within 24 hours after sending your text.
Following is a list of members of the Crisis Response Network of the North Shore who are currently providing tele-therapy to get you started. There are many other agencies and private practices that are ready to help, so do some research to find a good fit. But most importantly, if you are feeling anxious, get help now.

The Kenilworth Police Department wants to share with residents the opportunity to register for Smart911, which allows you to create a safety profile that will provide important information to first responders in an emergency. Smart911 is a free opt-in service, and you can provide as much or as little information as you would like. When anyone in your household dials 911 from a landline or cell phone connected to your safety profile, all the information is immediately displayed to the emergency dispatcher. Download the Smart911 App on the Apple Store or Google Play or Click here to register for Smart911 online. You can also check out this video for more information! Smart911 is now the Village's Emergency Notification system, replacing CodeRed. When you register, you can select to receive these alerts via Text, E-mail or voice.
