Motor-Driven Scooters, Skateboards and Cycles
Sent: March 9, 2020
The Village is considering restrictions on the use of Motor-Driven Scooters, Skateboards and Cycles. These low-speed electric vehicles are gaining popularity as an alternative to short-distance driving, and to traditional bicycles and scooters.
To encourage the safe use of Motor-Driven Scooters, Skateboards and Cycles in our community, the Village is considering the following restrictions:
· Prohibiting use without a driver’s license
· Requiring lighting at night
· Requiring a brake
· Adherence to traffic laws
· Restrictions on speed
· Carrying articles preventing the rider from keeping at least one hand on the handlebars
· Prohibiting more riders than what the device is designed for
Exemptions include:
· Toys capable of traveling no more than 10 MPH, operated under adult supervision
· Motorized wheelchairs and scooters designed for those with mobility difficulties
If you would like to provide feedback for the Public Safety Committee, you can do so my emailing Chief Miller at dmiller@vok.org and your comments will be shared with the Public Safety Committee. The Public Safety Committee will be discussing this issue on March 16, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Village Hall Board room.
Be in the KNOW this Winter with SMART911 Alerts on emergency weather events.
The Kenilworth Police Department wants to share with residents the opportunity to register for Smart911, which allows you to create a safety profile that will provide important information to first responders in an emergency. Smart911 is a free opt-in service, and you can provide as much or as little information as you would like. When anyone in your household dials 911 from a landline or cell phone connected to your safety profile, all the information is immediately displayed to the emergency dispatcher. Download the Smart911 App on the Apple Store or Google Play or Click here to register for Smart911 online. You can also check out this video for more information! Smart911 is now the Village's Emergency Notification system, replacing CodeRed. When you register, you can select to receive these alerts via Text, E-mail or voice.
