Motor-Driven Scooters, Skateboards and Cycles

The Village has been seriously considering restricting the use of Motor-Driven Scooters, Skateboards and Cycles. Some of these models can travel in excess of 30 MPH and there are no State laws which prohibit or even limit the use of these devices. The Village is looking at restricting their use on any public property to promote safety. Some the safety issues currently under consideration include: prohibiting use without a driver's license, requiring lighting at night, requiring a brake, adherence to traffic laws and restrictions on speed, to name a few.

The Village wanted to advise the community that this issue was being explored and will be discussed again at a future Public Safety Committee Meeting within the next few months. If you would like to provide feedback in advance of any meetings, you can do so my emailing Chief Miller at dmiller@vok.org and your comments will be shared with the Public Safety Committee.

The Kenilworth Police Department wants to share with residents the opportunity to register for Smart911, which allows you to create a safety profile that will provide important information to first responders in an emergency. Smart911 is a free opt-in service, and you can provide as much or as little information as you would like. When anyone in your household dials 911 from a landline or cell phone connected to your safety profile, all the information is immediately displayed to the emergency dispatcher.
