Recruitment
The Village of Kenilworth is a highly affluent, well-educated community of professionals and their families. The Village is comprised of approximately 3,000 residents living in 850 homes along with 100-plus businesses and professional offices. The Village is situated along the shores of Lake Michigan roughly 6 miles north of the city of Chicago.
The Village is bordered by the Village of Wilmette to the south and west, unincorporated Cook County also to the west, the Village of Winnetka to the north and the lake to the east. Land mass is approximately one square mile.
Policing Style
The crime rate in Kenilworth is consistently among the lowest of all communities in Cook County. Although vigilant in our crime prevention and investigation efforts, the Kenilworth Police Department does not follow the Crime Control Model per se, but rather subscribes to an individualized version of Community Based Policing and Problem Solving. This policing style is centered around a partnership with the community in identifying areas of mutual public safety concern and then working together to resolve them. This style is also highly service oriented in nature and involves many community-based programs and services, some dealing with non-traditional law enforcement issues.
The ideal candidate for a position with the Kenilworth Police Department is an intelligent, articulate individual, sensitive to the needs of the community and possessing strong communication and interpersonal skills and the utmost in good judgment. This individual must also be of the highest ethical and moral character and be willing to guide himself/herself by this agency’s values-based philosophy and written operational directives.
