Leash Laws

All dogs located within the Village, other than when on the owners premises, must be kept on a leash or under the immediate control of the owner at all times.

Ordinance
Sec. 91-024(a) Dogs running at Large.

It shall be unlawful for an owner of a dog to cause or permit it to run at large within the village, and any dog so running at large shall be deemed a public nuisance and may be impounded. A dog so impounded may be redeemed as provided in this chapter.

"At large" is defined as to be off the premises of the owner, not under the control of the owner or a member of the owner's immediate family over the age of 12 years, either by leash or otherwise; but an animal confined within the motor vehicle of its owner shall be deemed upon the owner's premises.

"Leash" is defined as a cord, thong or chain by which an animal is directly and effectively controlled by the person accompanying it.
